ReCraft 2015

What is ReCraft?
ReCraft is the annual Irish national Animation and 3D modelling competition. There are two categories in which you can enter the competition, the Recraft Monster MashUp Challenge and the Recraft StopMotion Challenge.

Who can Enter?
Recraft 2015 is open to all students, 16 years and above, studying at secondary level or further education (PLC). The competition might interest students who wish to pursue careers in art and design for computer games and animation industries.

How to Enter?
You can submit entries for both Recraft challenges and you can enter as many times as you like. Only individual entries are allowed and team submissions are not accepted.

What is the deadline for Enter?
Submissions will be accepted up to 23:59, November 14, 2015.

When are the winners announced?
Winners will be announced on Friday the 20th of November at the Digital Design Careers Day at LIT Clonmel.

What are the prizes?
The winner of each category will receive a new Apple iPad. 1 winning animation from the Stop Motion category and 1 winning creation from the Monster MashUp category will be selected.

How do I submit my entry for Recraft
You can submit your entry to Recraft using the Online Entry Form. This form will be made available in early November 2015.

Monster MashUp Challenge

For this Recraft challenge we’d like you to create your own monster hybrid using the free Autodesk Meshmixer software. Combine 3D models until you have a splendid new creature ready to show the world! Release the monster inside you!.

We can’t wait to see what amazing monsters you can create. First off your going to have to download a copy of MeshMixer. This is free to use and you can find it over at: http://www.123dapp.com/meshmixer

How to Participate

There is no limit on the number of entries per contestant. To enter, complete the submision using the Online Entry Form and provide a short description of your monster or crossbreed animal in the ‘description’ box. Be sure that the file you upload has the model file and three screenshots of your creation. Entries without these screenshot are automatically disqualified. The preferred size of the images is at least 845 pixels wide by 450 pixels high). Note that the jury can look through the model files or images based upon the screenshots of your 3D model that you put online, so send us very clear, visible screenshots.

Software & File Formats

Software: All designs must be created on Autodesk’s free Meshmixer software. This free software is can be downloaded on the Autodesk 123D website: http://www.123dapp.com/meshmixer.

File Format: You should submit your model files in .wrl or .obj format. You can find this format in the export menu of Meshmixer.

StopMotion Challenge

For this Recraft challenge we'd like you to create a Stop motion animation of an everyday object coming to life. You can use any materials you wish, such as plasticine or clay, to create you're stop motion transformations. You'll find a handy list of software to help you capture your animation below.

How to Participate

There is no limit on the number of entries per contestant. To enter, you should upload your video to either Youtube or Vimeo . Please tag the entry with Recraft2015. You should then submit a link to the video using the Online Entry Form and provide a short description of your stop motion animation in the ‘description’ box.

TERMS and CONDITIONS

The following general terms & conditions apply to the Recraft Competition.

  • All entries must be unique to this competition
  • LIT reserves the right to amend these rules at any time. Any amendment to competition rules will be posted on the Recraft website.
  • Prizes must be accepted as awarded. No cash alternatives or substitutes will be allowed. The decision of the jury will be final.
  • By submitting an entry (which includes 3D file, pictures and text description) to the Recraft challenge, you grant a non-exclusive, royalty free, unlimited in the time, worldwide license to LIT to display the design you submitted and/or a reproduction of this design for marketing purposes. LIT has the right to reproduce in 3D, to take photographs/pictures and reproduce the pictures of the design on any support (CD, DVD, internet, folder, etc.) for marketing purposes. LIT shall never reproduce the design for which you grant a license to LIT in order to sell it. By submitting your design to the challenge, you state that you are the sole creator of the model and that you do not infringe any copyright or any other intellectual property right (trademark, design and mode, patent, etc.) of a third party and/or that you obtained all the necessary permissions in order to duly allow such a license to LIT.
